A trip to a reserve is a New Years Eve tradition among birdwatchers, and with the arrival of the first good weather for weeks many reserves had record numbers of visitors. The Wetland Centre was no exception with the hides teeming with visitors, many peering through their new (and expensive) Christmas presents.
This Cormorant was seemed to be enjoying the sunshine as much as I was:

Hundreds of Lapwing winter on the reserve, with small flocks swirling round in their spectacular display flight, often accompanied by Starlings:

Drake Shoveller, Shelduck and Tufted Duck in their smart breeding plumage:
